Welcome!

Three times is a charm, as they say. This is my third attempt at a blog of my own, and I think I have found my voice at last. We'll see.

This blog will record my musings on the struggle for peace of mind in a world that appears to be going crazier by the day. My black sense of humour, for which I thank whatever gods may be, helps a great deal, and much of my commentary will be informed by it.

But not all of it.

That's because I am, or at least try to be, a good Scout. That means living according to the Scout Law, a code of honour that happens to be tailor-made to the world in which we find ourselves. Originally the chivalric code adapted to the lives of industrial age adolescents, the Scout Law may find new relevance as the industrial age unravels in the face of physical limits.

Which means that while I do believe in evolution*, I don't believe in Star Trek.

*Actually, I don't believe in evolution, either. I accept the fact of natural selection and common descent as the central organising principles of biology without which nothing would make sense.
